e-Prescribing

This measure reports the number of permissible prescriptions that go through a formulary check and are sent electronically from Prime Suite. For this measure, you may choose to include or not include prescriptions for controlled substances.

Measure Overview
Denominator The number of permissible prescriptions written (i.e., prescribed, refilled, or adjusted) during the performance period.
Numerator All prescriptions in the denominator queried for a drug formulary and sent electronically from Prime Suite.
Medicare Goal

At least 1 prescription in numerator

See the following sections for more information about the e-Prescribing measure:

Denominator Criteria

The denominator includes the number of permissible prescriptions written (i.e., prescribed, refilled, or adjusted) during the performance period. These prescriptions must be for drugs requiring a prescription to be dispensed. Additionally, only prescriptions printed or sent electronically from Prime Suite count. Recorded medications will not qualify.

This measure looks at prescriptions during the performance period rather than patient visits.

Numerator Criteria

Prescriptions qualify for the numerator if they meet all the following criteria:

  • The prescription qualified for the denominator.
  • A drug formulary check was performed on the prescription.
  • The prescription was sent electronically from Prime Suite, and the transmission was successful.

Measure Changes for 2019

Name Changes The measure name changed from Electronic Prescribing to e-Prescribing.
Measure Changes

Previously, the denominator included every prescription added to the system.

For 2019, the denominator includes only prescriptions that have been printed or sent electronically from Prime Suite.

Workflow Changes To support Prime Suite Reporting 2019, added Duration, Package, and Prescriber to the fields that the provider should complete when adding the prescription.

Setup Requirements

In Prime Suite, you submit prescriptions electronically using the ePrescribe feature. To use ePrescribe, you must be enrolled with SureScripts. While this process must be completed by a Greenway customer support representative, the eRx Configuration topic in the Prime Suite help system provides an overview of the process. For assistance, contact your support representative, create a case on My Greenway, or call Greenway Support at (877) 932‑6301.

In addition to being set up to electronically prescribe, to prescribe controlled substances electronically, you must also complete the EPCS Registration and Onboarding process, which includes being set up with DrFirst, our EPCS partner. For more information on this process, please contact your Greenway Prime Suite sales representative. The eRx Configuration for EPCS Clients topic in the Prime Suite help system provides additional information.

Providers must be assigned the User Rights for creating prescriptions (Prescriptions-Create prescriptions) and using ePrescribe (Prescriptions-Access ePrescribe). See the User & Group Rights topic in the Prime Suite help system.

Clinical staff must be assigned the User Right for prescribing on behalf of a provider (Prescriptions-Create prescriptions on behalf of).
